About Me

Andrea Roberts: Austin, Texas, United States; Andrea Roberts is a progressive, black feminist blogger, writer, poet, preservation advocate, researcher, and 8th generation, native Texan. Her desire to preserve endangered historical black settlements, address the impact of sprawl and government disinvestment on current black communities, and reverse the trend toward a widening black-white wealth gap in her native Houston led Andrea to her current doctoral study in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas-Austin. A first year doctoral student, Andrea’s research interests include heritage preservation, cooperative economics, and the history of sustainable development and planning within informal African American settlements in Texas and throughout the diaspora. Over the past 10 years, she has helped nonprofits and struggling cities stretch budget dollars to meet the growing, complex needs of economically disadvantaged communities. Andrea holds a MA in Governmental Administration & Public Finance from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Political Science from Vassar College.
